Biography: Bernard Molitor moved from Paris to Luxembourg at a young age and began working in sales. He became a master ebeniste in 1787 and one of his first commissions was to create a mahogany floor for Queen Marie-Antionette at Fontainebleu. After this project, he began working for other members of the aristocracy. Molitor was forced to close his workshop during the French Revolution but opened it later with the help of a large staff. He produced an array of furniture designs including commodes, tables, desks, and cabinets that were veneered with mahogany, satinwood or Japanese lacquer. He died in 1833 at the age of seventy-eight as a very wealthy and successful ebeniste.
